ABOUT DOWN BY THE RIVER
When I first started kayaking seven years ago, I thought that you needed to drive to the Adirondacks to get away from it all. I would spend more time driving than paddling.
The first time I kayaked on the Mohawk River in Amsterdam, NY, I was really surprised. It was clean, quiet, and beautiful...and I could leave my driveway and be on the water in less than 10 minutes. Instead of kayaking once a month, I was able to go at least three times a week. I was hooked.
Urban kayaking is popular in many major cities because you can experience nature and see the city in a different light. There are moments kayaking in Amsterdam that you forget that you are within city limits. The locks on the Erie Canal control the flow of water, making the Mohawk River slower and more navigable, like a series of lakes.
Kayaking on the Mohawk River in Amsterdam is a great way to learn about the exciting history of the Erie Canal, check out the recent upgrades along the river, and envision the future. Being on the water is an incredible way to experience Amsterdam.
Come meet me "down by the river" and I will show you around!
PS-While you're here, check out some of the fabulous restaurants and other local attractions in the area. There really is something for everyone!
